The default Waikīkī family park: huge open lawns for running off energy, mature monkeypod and banyan trees for shade picnics, big playground at the zoo end, and a walking-distance pier to the Kapahulu Groin if you want to add a beach window to your day. Free, no permit needed unless you're gathering >25 people. Sunday morning farmers + craft market at the bandstand.
Toddlers love the playground at the Honolulu Zoo end. Older kids gravitate to the soccer + tennis side. Park is exposed in the middle — bring shade or post up under a banyan.
Watch for the Kalākaua Ave traffic when crossing from Waikīkī side. Sprinkler systems run early morning — wet grass + bare feet = slippery. Coqui frogs in the banyans at dusk (loud, harmless).
Free street parking around the perimeter (Paki Ave, Monsarrat Ave, Kalākaua Ave). Lots fill by 9 AM on weekends. Many families bike here from Waikīkī hotels.
Restrooms at the bandstand + zoo entrance + Waikīkī Shell. Generally clean but vary by time of day. Bring wipes.
Big mature trees ring the park — banyans on the Paki Ave side are the best shade. Center lawn is fully exposed. Pick a tree before noon on sunny days.
Early morning (before 10 AM) for cool + uncrowded. Late afternoon (after 4 PM) for kite-flying when the trades pick up. Avoid 11 AM–2 PM on bright days unless you have shade.
Accessibility: Paved walking paths around the perimeter; banyan-grove restrooms are ADA. Some lawn sections soft after rain.
Two enclosed swim ponds along Waikīkī, walled off from the surf — the safest Waikīkī option for non-swimmers.
Diamond Head-end of Waikīkī, less crowded than central Waikīkī, with a small reef-protected swim area.
