What to expect

Best 'we want to hike with the kids' option. Paved the whole way — strollers and toddler legs both work. Switchbacks are gentle. Whale watching from December to April from the upper viewpoints. Exposed the entire route — start early or bring real sun cover. Pair with Sandy Beach or Waimānalo for a beach close.

Parent notes

Bring real sun cover — there is ZERO shade on the trail. Hat + sunscreen + extra water are non-negotiable midday. Whale watching is best Dec–Apr from the upper viewpoints. Toddlers in strollers do great; ones who want to walk can do it with snack breaks.

Safety

Exposed cliffs along the trail — keep kids on the trail, don't venture to the cliff edges for photos. Heat exposure is the main risk (no shade). Watch for cyclists on the access road approach.
